Hewlett Packard Co. is recalling about 135,000 battery packs for some H-P and Compaq laptop computers because of reports they overheated and melted, the Palo Alto, Calif., company announced Friday. The lithium ion rechargeable battery packs are used with H-P Pavilion, Compaq Presario, H-P Compaq and Compaq Evo laptop computers. The recalled packs bear a barcode label starting with GC, IA, L0 or L1, and were sold from March 2004 through May 2005. The company has received 16 reports of the batteries" overheating; four cases occurred in the U.S. The company said customers should stop using the laptops and contact H-P for a replacement by calling 888-404-7398 or visiting www.hp.com/support.

It seems like there is a new product recall every few days. I am especially concerned about all the recalls on office furniture and office products. I now have a personal file that alerts me to office furniture recalls. I also receive timely notices when one of my office products has been recalled. You can receive the recalls and update notices at the product blog page.
